Assassin's Creed Odyssey starts by letting you choose Kassandra or Alexios. Both are Spartan outcasts who become mercenaries and set out to uncover their family history. The story takes place during the Peloponnesian War, when Athens and Sparta are fighting for control of Greece. You explore towns, islands, forts and the sea while meeting characters drawn from the period and the game's own fiction.

This entry leans into role-playing choices. You select dialogue replies, accept quests, collect gear and unlock abilities that suit how you fight. You can sneak into a fort, use a bow from a distance or fight openly. Your ship, the Adrestia, takes you between islands and into naval combat. Large Conquest Battles let you fight for either side of the war, though your personal story continues beyond any one battle. The gallery shows travel, conversations, ground combat and a ship fight so you can see how the activities differ.

Ubisoft Québec developed Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and Ubisoft released it on October 5, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Some premium editions offered early access a few days before the standard launch. A cloud version later appeared on Switch in Japan; it was not one of the main 2018 launch platforms.
