Animal Well is a single-player puzzle adventure built around an interconnected underground world. You control a small, round creature among platforms, passages and much larger animals. The aim is to understand the rooms and discover what their objects can do, rather than overpower every creature you meet.

Items have more than one use, so finding a new tool can change how you read a room you already visited. Exploration is open-ended: routes, environmental puzzles and hidden details matter alongside platforming. The game gradually fills out your map and uses candles as points of safety, but its creatures can still make an apparently quiet room tense.

The gallery separates the game’s different kinds of spaces: a large animal encounter, a narrow route above two birds, a display of collected eggs and an enclosed chamber built around platforms and a ladder. The images show the scale and layout without giving away a puzzle’s solution or claiming that every animal is an enemy.

Billy Basso developed Animal Well, with Bigmode as publisher. Its original release was on May 9, 2024, for Windows PC, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. Xbox Series X|S followed on October 17, 2024. The later Xbox version is part of the same game, not a second original release.
