ABZÛ puts you in the role of a diver exploring an ocean filled with fish, reefs and submerged ruins. Swimming is the main way to move: turn through a school of fish, follow a passage or pause to watch a creature nearby. The adventure goes deeper into the sea as you discover more of the world beneath its surface.

Read full overview

The wildlife includes species based on real animals, with schools that react to the diver, other fish and predators. Looking at how those creatures move is part of the appeal. This is a single-player underwater journey, rather than a fishing game, a home-building simulation or a multiplayer diving session.

The bright water does not mean the whole trip is free of danger. Ancient technology and some creature encounters can threaten the diver or its companions. If you are looking for an ocean game with no unsettling moments, allow for those changes of mood alongside the quieter time spent swimming among fish.

Giant Squid developed ABZÛ, with 505 Games publishing the original PC and PlayStation release in August 2016. Choose it for moving through underwater spaces and watching sea life, with a story told mainly through the places and events you encounter. It offers a different pace from a side-on puzzle adventure: you guide the diver through open water instead of spending most of the trip jumping between ledges.
