Victoria Monét took inspiration from Michael Jackson’s move from Off the Wall to Thriller while making Frequency of Love. In an Associated Press interview published October 1, she explained the difference between inspiration and imitation.

“I did not make ‘Thriller,’” Monét said. “I just made my version of what I would make with that mindset.”

Frequency of Love arrives Friday, October 2, via Lovett Music/RCA Records. Apple Music’s US listing has 22 tracks, with “Juicy,” “Reach Out” and “Let Me” available ahead of the full release.
