Scarlett Johansson is definitely joining Robert Pattinson in The Batman Part II. Whether she is playing Poison Ivy is a different question. Director Matt Reeves confirmed her casting in May, but he did not reveal her character. DC Studios and Warner Bros. have not named the role either.

Where the Poison Ivy Rumor Came From
The claim started with a since-deleted post discussed by CinemaBlend. The post appeared in the DCULeaks community and was reportedly checked by its moderators before it disappeared. It described Johansson's character as a plant-obsessed serial killer who uses toxins and targets powerful people in Gotham. The person behind the post reportedly never heard the name Poison Ivy. Readers connected the description to Pamela Isley themselves.
A deleted leak can start a useful discussion, but it is not the same as a studio announcement. Moderator checks may show that someone shared private material or had access to production information. They do not guarantee that every detail is correct, current, or understood properly.
One older post added more interest. GamesRadar noted that co-writer Mattson Tomlin said Batman #181 was the first Batman comic he ever read. That 1966 issue introduced Poison Ivy. It is a fun connection, but Tomlin shared the memory about a year before this rumor appeared and never said it was a clue about the sequel.
How Poison Ivy Could Fit This Gotham
In the comics, Poison Ivy is botanist Pamela Isley. DC's official profile describes her as an environmental extremist who can control plants and use toxins and pheromones. Some versions make her powers openly supernatural. Others spend more time on her scientific knowledge, poisonous compounds, and anger at people who damage the natural world.
Reeves could use the second version without changing the realistic style established in The Batman. Johansson could play a scientist or killer who uses plant-based poisons instead of controlling giant vines. Her victims could come from Gotham's wealthy families or companies accused of pollution. That approach would still feel like Poison Ivy while giving the character a different look from Uma Thurman's bright, theatrical version in 1997's Batman & Robin.
Fans are already divided over that possible approach. A realistic Ivy could suit a detective story and give Johansson a threatening role without copying an older movie. Other fans want the sequel to accept more of Batman's strange comic-book world. To them, removing Ivy's connection to living plants would take away too much of what makes her different from Gotham's other killers.
