The Sins of Kujo movie has added six cast members and a new 30-second teaser ahead of its January 8, 2027 opening in Japan. Haru Kuroki, Yui Narumi, Kiyohiko Shibukawa, Mutsuo Yoshioka, Yu Tokui and Eita Okuno join the live-action crime drama.

The feature is a wholly new continuation of the 2026 Netflix series, not a theatrical recut. Yuya Yagira returns as lawyer Taiza Kujo, with Hokuto Matsumura back as his estranged former associate Shinji Karasuma. The official story pulls both men into a kidnapping, a gang betrayal and a police-and-prosecutor effort to arrest Kujo.

When does the Sins of Kujo movie come out?

Sins of Kujo opens nationwide in Japan on January 8, 2027. TOHO’s official site and both official teaser titles carry the same date.

No international theatrical date or global streaming date has been announced. The Netflix series had a global launch, but that does not establish where or when the separate feature film will be available outside Japan.

The dedicated Sins of Kujo movie page keeps the confirmed date and film details together.

What the new teaser shows

The new teaser opens with Kujo back in his improvised rooftop life and quickly moves into underworld pressure. It shows street criminals, yakuza figures, police action and Karasuma facing the consequences of a case that crosses several factions.

The footage supports the official crime-thriller setup without revealing the outcome. It does not establish who survives, whether Kujo defeats the warrant or how his relationship with Karasuma ends.

TOHO’s first teaser, released with the July film announcement, provides an earlier look at Kujo and Karasuma after their separation. The newer video is shorter and more concentrated on the widening criminal network, giving the September cast reveal fresh story context without replacing the longer first preview.

How the movie continues the Netflix series

TOHO describes the film as a wholly new story that follows the Netflix series. The series began streaming globally on April 2, 2026, and the official film site says it entered Netflix’s weekly global top 10 for non-English series for two consecutive weeks.

The film picks up after Kujo and Karasuma have split apart. The official announcement says the movie answers threads and questions left by the series while still being structured so first-time viewers can follow it.

What is the Sins of Kujo movie about?

Taiza Kujo is still living in a tent on a building roof and accepting clients other lawyers might reject. His former partner Shinji Karasuma has separated from him, but both men are drawn into a conflict that connects a street gang, a yakuza organization and the authorities.

The crisis begins when a subordinate of gang leader Mibu mistakenly kidnaps the son of yakuza lieutenant Kyogoku. Mibu betrays Kyogoku and prepares for retaliation. Kyogoku’s men then search for him and attack Kujo’s law office.

Police and prosecutors use the escalating violence to close in on Kujo with an arrest warrant. Karasuma, despite the collapse of their partnership, takes an unexpected step as a lawyer while Kujo begins what the official synopsis calls his final defense.

Which cast members return from the series?

Yuya Yagira returns as Taiza Kujo and Hokuto Matsumura returns as Shinji Karasuma. The official site identifies Kujo as the defense attorney willing to represent social outsiders and Karasuma as the elite lawyer who once worked at his office.

Elaiza Ikeda, Keita Machida, Takuma Otoo and Tsuyoshi Muro are also back. TOHO’s story material ties the returning group to the law office, Mibu’s gang, Kyogoku’s organization and the wider criminal investigation.

Who are the six new cast members?

Haru Kuroki plays Kanako Kujo, Taiza’s former wife and the mother of their young daughter. Yui Narumi plays Rui Ota, a suspect in a dating-app fraud case who asks Kujo to defend her.

Kiyohiko Shibukawa plays Taketo Mitarai, a sworn brother of Kyogoku in the Fushimi-gumi. Mutsuo Yoshioka plays Karikane, an assistant lieutenant; Yu Tokui plays Kajiya, a former fighter who remembers the organization’s most violent years; and Eita Okuno plays Uji, a younger executive focused on earning money.

Who made the film?

Nobuhiro Doi directs the Sins of Kujo movie. Atsushi Nasuda is the producer, and Shohei Manabe created the original manga.

The current official site is the controlling source for those production credits. A complete English-language crew list has not been published there, so the movie record does not fill gaps with secondary assumptions.

What is still unconfirmed?

The official sources checked do not announce an international release, streaming destination for the film, runtime or content rating. They also do not provide a ticket-sale date or a complete final crew list.

The movie’s connection to a Netflix series does not make a Netflix film release automatic. Any worldwide availability will need its own distributor or platform confirmation.
