A24 released the preview ahead of the documentary’s October 16 theatrical date. Holmes, the Theranos founder convicted of investor fraud, appears as herself. Fielder and Lance Oppenheim direct. The new footage shows longer conversations, scenes inside Holmes’s home and an unusual filming setup. Several viewers compared its editing and music to a psychological thriller.
What Fielder asks Holmes and Evans
Fielder is not just an off-screen interviewer. Holmes and her partner, William ‘Billy’ Evans, invited him into their home before she went to prison, according to the New York Film Festival. In the trailer, he asks whether they worry about him being there around the clock. He also asks Holmes, ‘What if I see something that makes you look bad?’
The preview cuts between conversations at home, a camera rig around Holmes and close-ups of her face. Fielder also asks Evans whether he ever worried that Holmes was trying to scam him. The trailer gives more time to their answers and reactions than to a recap of the Theranos scandal.
Why viewers are comparing it to a thriller
In a Reddit discussion of the official trailer, one viewer compared its tone to a psychological thriller:
“Insane that this is a doc and not a psychological thriller.”
In a community for Fielder’s series The Rehearsal, another said the final close-up and its sound “gave me chills.” Other comments focused on the editing, long pauses and a shot of Holmes’s eye filling with tears.
Other comments were critical. Some viewers are uncomfortable with Holmes getting another high-profile screen appearance at all. Others wonder whether the trailer’s editing makes the film seem more revealing than it may be. One Reddit commenter wrote, ‘I’m a little worried the trailer is too good.’ The finished film has not opened yet, so that concern remains unanswered.
How Holmes became involved in the film
A24 says Holmes invited a skeptical crew to document her 34 days before she was sent to prison. What began as an intimate portrait became a three-year production. Holmes agreed to be filmed, and the trailer shows Fielder asking whether she would accept footage that makes her look bad.
The New York Film Festival describes the documentary as a portrait of Holmes and Evans’s relationship, with Fielder staying in their home. The trailer includes serious questions, uncomfortable exchanges and a few comic moments. It does not show how those scenes fit together across the film’s 174 minutes.
When does You Can See Everything come out?
The New York Film Festival has a September 30 screening and Q&A with Fielder and Oppenheim. A24 lists October 16, 2026 as the theatrical release date. The studio has not announced a streaming date or a country-by-country rollout on its film page.
