Gen V actor Asa Germann is reportedly in final talks to play Warren Worthington III, better known as Angel, in Marvel Studios’ X-Men movie.
Marvel has not announced the deal. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the casting talks, and TheWrap also reported that negotiations are in their final stage. Marvel declined to comment.
Is Asa Germann officially playing Angel?
Not yet. Final talks usually mean the actor and studio are close to an agreement, but the contract is not confirmed until Marvel says so. Germann was not part of the X-Men cast presentation at D23 in August, making him a later reported addition.
The cast Marvel introduced at D23 included Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Scott Summers, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver also announced that he will play Nathaniel Milbury.
Who is Angel in the X-Men?
Angel is Warren Worthington III, a wealthy mutant born with large white wings. He can fly, survive at high altitudes, see across long distances, and heal faster than an ordinary person.
Warren was one of the original five X-Men in Marvel Comics alongside Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, and Iceman. Adding him would put three members of that first lineup in the 2028 movie, since Marvel has already announced Connor and Sink as Cyclops and Jean.
Why are fans already talking about Archangel?
Fans moved quickly to Archangel because Warren’s best-known comic story changes him completely. After his wings are badly damaged and amputated, Apocalypse gives him metal wings and turns him into the Horseman of Death. Warren eventually breaks free, but the experience follows him for years.
Nothing in the casting report says Apocalypse will appear or that the first movie will use this transformation. Germann is being linked to Angel, not a confirmed Archangel storyline.
Angel has appeared in live-action X-Men movies before. Ben Foster played Warren in X-Men: The Last Stand, while Ben Hardy played a version of Angel who became Archangel in X-Men: Apocalypse. Neither version had much time to explore Warren before and after the change.
Why does Asa Germann fit Angel?
Early fan reaction has focused on Germann’s work as Sam Riordan in Gen V. Sam can look vulnerable, angry, frightened, and dangerous within the same scene. Germann made those shifts feel connected instead of playing them as separate versions of the character.
Warren starts from a very different place: he is polished, wealthy, and used to hiding his wings from the public. His darker stories tear through that control. Germann has already shown that he can handle a superpowered character whose emotional state changes the threat level in a room.

When will Marvel’s X-Men be released?
Disney has scheduled the untitled X-Men movie for May 5, 2028. Marvel has not announced a filming start or trailer date.
Germann’s deal still needs an official confirmation. If it closes, the next question is whether Marvel introduces Warren as Angel first or moves quickly toward Archangel.
