Anime details
Mononoke the Movie: Chapter III – The Curse of the Serpent is the third and final film in the Mononoke trilogy set inside the Ōoku, the inner palace. The Medicine Seller returns to confront another mononoke, a spirit born from human passions and grudges. The three films share a setting while shifting the focus among women at different ranks. The Phantom in the Rain (2024) follows a newly arrived maid. Chapter II – The Ashes of Rage (2025) follows elite concubines known as the Ochurou. Chapter III centers the Midaidokoro, the highest-ranking woman in the Ōoku, and brings together clues laid across the preceding films. The series began as a television anime in the 2000s, but this page is specifically for the third feature film. Hiroshi Kamiya voices the Medicine Seller. Atsumi Tanezaki, Miyu Irino, Kenjiro Tsuda and Miyuki Sawashiro are also among the announced Japanese cast; Sawashiro voices the third Midaidokoro. Kenji Nakamura is chief director, Tomoaki Koshida directs, Yasumi Atarashi wrote the screenplay, and Studio KAFKA and EOTA handle animation. The official Japanese site gives a May 29, 2026 theatrical opening. Netflix announced a September 29, 2026 streaming premiere and says the first two films are already available there. The September date is a streaming release, not the film’s initial Japanese release.
