Trespasses

Trespasses is a four-part television drama adapted from Louise Kennedy’s novel. Set in Northern Ireland in 1975, the series follows Cushla Lavery, a young Catholic primary-school teacher who also helps in her family’s pub. She begins a secret relationship with Michael Agnew, an older married Protestant barrister, and the affair crosses religious, political and class lines enforced by the community around them. Lola Petticrew stars as Cushla, Tom Cullen plays Michael and Gillian Anderson plays Cushla’s charismatic and difficult mother, Gina. The supporting cast includes Patrick Martins, Gerard McCarthy, Conor MacNeill, Oisin Thompson and Aidan McArdle. Ailbhe Keogan wrote the television adaptation and Dawn Shadforth directed all four episodes. Wildgaze Films produced the drama for Channel 4, with All3Media International handling distribution. The series premiered in the United Kingdom in March 2026. Its U.S. PBS run begins September 20 and continues on four Sundays through October 11, with episodes also available through PBS.org and the PBS app according to local access rules.
