The Doll

The Doll, titled Lalka in Poland, is a six-episode Netflix limited series based on Bolesław Prus’s novel. Stanisław Wokulski, a wealthy self-made merchant, desires both Izabela Łęcka and the acceptance of the aristocratic world she represents. Izabela has ambitions of her own and does not want to become a prize in somebody else’s climb through society. The period story is set in Warsaw, with love and social class complicated by money, family secrets and an investigation. Netflix describes this version as a modern retelling rather than a literal page-for-page adaptation. Tomasz Schuchardt plays Stanisław, Sandra Drzymalska plays Izabela and Jacek Braciak plays her father. Dariusz Chojnacki is Stanisław’s friend Ignacy Rzecki. Other cast members include Julia Wyszyńska, Maria Kania, Piotr Adamczyk, Piotr Pacek and Magdalena Cielecka. Paweł Maślona directs and co-wrote the scripts with Paweł Demirski and Jagoda Dutkiewicz. All six episodes premiered on Netflix September 16, 2026. The official title page lists episode lengths of about 60 to 72 minutes.
