NCIS follows Special Agent Alden Parker and a Washington-based team investigating crimes involving Navy or Marine Corps personnel. Timothy McGee, Nick Torres and Jessica Knight handle field cases, while medical examiner Jimmy Palmer and forensic scientist Kasie Hines support the investigations. The series mixes procedural cases with the team dynamics created by long-running professional and personal relationships. Created by Donald P. Bellisario and produced by CBS Studios with Belisarius Productions, NCIS premiered on September 23, 2003. The current principal cast includes Gary Cole, Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Katrina Law, Brian Dietzen and Diona Reasonover. Season 24 premieres October 6, 2026 on CBS. Michael Weatherly returns as Tony DiNozzo for a season-long arc, beginning with Tony in Washington to open a satellite office for his private security firm. CBS has not said that Tony has rejoined the agency, appears in every episode or will remain beyond Season 24.
