Overview

Twilight Sparkle would usually rather read than make small talk. When Princess Celestia sends her to Ponyville to help prepare for a celebration, she meets Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy. Getting along takes more than a good plan, especially when her new friends all have different ideas about how to help. Developed for television by Lauren Faust, Friendship Is Magic ran from 2010 to 2019 over nine seasons. Some episodes stay close to home for parties, family visits, and disagreements between friends. Others take the ponies to Canterlot, the Crystal Empire, and beyond. Songs and two-part adventures are part of the fun, alongside the smaller moments when someone needs to apologize or ask for help. Each of the six friends represents an Element of Harmony: Twilight is magic, Applejack honesty, Fluttershy kindness, Pinkie Pie laughter, Rainbow Dash loyalty, and Rarity generosity. Spike, Twilight’s dragon assistant and friend, is there from the beginning. Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo have their own adventures as the Cutie Mark Crusaders, trying to discover what makes each of them special. Start with the two-part season 1 premiere and follow the seasons in order. The 2017 movie follows the same ponies, while Equestria Girls takes Twilight into a human world. The guides below explain where those films fit and help you recognize the characters you meet along the way.
