Villeneuve: The Rise of a Legend

Villeneuve: The Rise of a Legend is a Canadian sports drama about the early career of Formula One driver Gilles Villeneuve. The story begins in Berthierville, Quebec, in 1970, when Villeneuve is a young mechanic and racer from a modest family. He competes in snowmobile and car races while trying to enter a professional sport dominated by wealthy teams and drivers. Rémi Goulet stars as Gilles, and Rosalie Bonenfant plays his wife, Joann Villeneuve. Patrice Robitaille, Anick Lemay, Fabien Cloutier, Hubert Proulx, Étienne Galloy and Luc Picard also appear. Yan Lanouette Turgeon directs from a screenplay by Daniel Roby and Guillaume Lonergan. Christian Larouche produces through Christal Films. The 102-minute French- and English-language film made its world premiere as TIFF’s closing-night selection on September 19, 2026, and opens in Quebec theaters November 11.
