Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope

Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope is the 1977 science-fiction adventure written and directed by George Lucas. Nineteen years after the formation of the Galactic Empire, Luke Skywalker leaves Tatooine after meeting Obi-Wan Kenobi and discovering a message from Princess Leia hidden inside R2-D2. Luke and Obi-Wan hire pilot Han Solo and Chewbacca to carry them to Alderaan, but the mission leads them to the Death Star and a fight to rescue Leia from Darth Vader and Grand Moff Tarkin. Mark Hamill stars as Luke, Carrie Fisher as Leia, Harrison Ford as Han, Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan and David Prowse performs as Darth Vader, with James Earl Jones providing Vader’s voice. The film opened May 25, 1977, is rated PG and runs 2 hours and 1 minute. It launched the Star Wars film saga and introduced the Rebel Alliance, the Empire, the Force and many of the characters and vehicles preserved in the Lucas Museum’s Star Wars in Motion exhibition.
