Prima Facie follows Tessa Ensler, a brilliant London defence barrister from a working-class background. She is skilled at creating reasonable doubt in difficult sexual-assault cases and trusts the courtroom rules that helped build her career.
After Tessa is assaulted by fellow barrister Julian Brooks, those rules are turned against her. The film adapts Suzie Miller’s award-winning play and expands the original one-woman stage story with a supporting cast and a wider view of Tessa’s legal and personal life.
Susanna White directs Cynthia Erivo and Daniel Ings from Miller’s screenplay. The 106-minute UK-Australia production premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and opens in UK and Irish cinemas on November 13, 2026. A United States theatrical date has not been announced.
