One Year to Live, Buy a Man is a Japanese romantic drama starring Ko Shibasaki as Yui Katakura and Eiji Akaso as Sena, also known as Ryuma. At 40, Yui has spent years saving money and avoiding romance. When a cancer screening tells her she may have one year to live, she decides to stop postponing ordinary pleasures. Sena, a pink-haired nightclub host with money troubles, asks to borrow from her; Yui answers by offering to “buy” him for ¥720,000. Their odd arrangement becomes an unexpected relationship.
Hiroki Kazama directs a screenplay by Yoshikazu Okada, adapting Toriko Yoshikawa’s novel. The supporting cast includes Michitaka Tsutsui, Naomi Nishida, Mari Hamada, Yui Narumi and Yoko Moriguchi. The trailer focuses on Yui’s small extravagances, from premium movie seats to food she once refused to buy. Netflix has announced a November 5, 2026 premiere. The ending and full running time are not disclosed in the trailer announcement.
