Long Day’s Journey Into Night

Long Day’s Journey Into Night follows the Tyrone family through one day in August 1912 at their Connecticut seaside home. Mary Tyrone’s fragile recovery from morphine addiction is threatened as the family learns that younger son Edmund may be seriously ill. Her husband James and elder son Jamie face their own regrets while the household’s old wounds come to the surface.

Jessica Lange stars as Mary, a role that won her a Tony Award in the 2016 Broadway revival. Ed Harris plays James, Ben Foster is Jamie and Colin Morgan is Edmund. Jonathan Kent, a celebrated stage and opera director, makes his feature-film directorial debut with this new adaptation of Eugene O’Neill’s play. It is not a filmed version of the Broadway staging.

Quiver Distribution has planned a limited US theatrical opening for September 25, 2026. The Virginia Film Festival will also screen the film during its October 21–25 festival, followed by an in-person conversation with Lange and Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz.
