I Play Rocky

An unknown Sylvester Stallone has a screenplay about an underdog boxer, but getting the film made means persuading others to let him play the lead. I Play Rocky follows the struggle behind the 1976 movie: the rejected actor insists on becoming Rocky Balboa himself. The story dramatizes the making of Rocky rather than continuing the boxer’s fictional career. Peter Farrelly directs from Peter Gamble’s screenplay. Fireside Films and Baha Productions are behind the production, with Amazon MGM Studios handling its theatrical release. The film is part of TIFF 2026’s Special Presentations program, where FilmNation announced its world premiere. VIFF also lists it as a 127-minute, English-language drama.
