Heretic

Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton are missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They visit Mr. Reed, who has asked to hear about their faith. He says his wife is at home, invites them inside and begins a conversation that becomes increasingly threatening. The women must question his claims and find a way out.

Scott Beck and Bryan Woods wrote and directed this standalone English-language horror thriller. Hugh Grant plays Mr. Reed, Sophie Thatcher plays Sister Barnes and Chloe East plays Sister Paxton. Barnes and Paxton are fellow missionaries, not biological sisters.

A24 released Heretic in U.S. theaters on November 8, 2024. The film runs approximately 111 minutes. Hulu added it to its U.S. catalog on September 8, 2026. Streaming availability in other countries may differ.

The U.S. MPA classification is R for some bloody violence. The film also contains sexual references, prolonged threats and discussion of religious beliefs.
