Where to watch

Tyler Perry's Doing Life is a romantic drama about a single mother and an incarcerated man who form a connection through letters. Naomi Baker and Jay Reeves play the two leads. Their correspondence offers companionship while their separate circumstances make building a relationship outside those letters more difficult. Family responsibilities and the limits of prison life remain part of the story.

Perry wrote and directed the film and produced it with Angi Bones and Tony L. Strickland. The supporting cast includes Tamberla Perry, Karen Obilom, Jasmine Sargent, Lucky Johnson, Danielle Moné Truitt, Cali Rae Benard, Marley Jade Benard and Cornell Young IV. Baker and Reeves lead the romance; this is not a Madea comedy or a film starring Perry as its central character.

The 108-minute feature premiered October 2, 2026, on Netflix. It is currently available on Netflix in the United States, whose title listing carries a TV-MA label. This is a film rather than an episodic series, so the story can be watched in one sitting without a weekly release schedule. Availability and ratings outside the United States can differ.

The trailer introduces the two characters' growing relationship through conversations, letters, family scenes and a prison visit. Its preview does not reveal every detail of their pasts or settle how the romance ends. The film follows what happens when a bond built through correspondence has to make room for the people and responsibilities in both characters' lives.
