Helen Mirren plays a fictionalized version of author Patricia Highsmith, creator of Tom Ripley. Alden Ehrenreich plays Edward, a young literary agent who visits Highsmith at her secluded Swiss home to persuade her to write another Ripley novel. She challenges him to help plan a perfect murder, pushing a professional visit into a dangerous test of character. Olivia Cooke also stars. The Bleecker Street film page names Corbijn as director, Murray-Smith as writer and October 23, 2026 as the US theatrical release date. The film premiered during the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival. In a festival interview, Ehrenreich described Edward as less comfortable with his darker impulses than Ripley, and discussed how the house’s angles help make the film feel confined.
