Wolfenstein: The New Order imagines a 1960s world in which the Nazis won the Second World War. You play B.J. Blazkowicz, a soldier who joins a resistance effort against that regime. The story is an alternate history, not a retelling of what happened in the real world. You see through B.J.’s eyes, explore enemy facilities and fight soldiers and machines. If you are new to Wolfenstein, you can follow this game’s central conflict without first finishing every older entry.

This is a first-person shooter with both direct fights and quieter approaches. In some areas, you can move behind cover and deal with a commander before an alarm brings more enemies; in others, the game puts you into a large fight. Watch the weapons you have, your available ammunition, a room’s doors and any place you can use as cover. The gallery shows the armored enemies, a heavy machine and the first-person view of combat, so you can recognize the sort of threats the description means. It does not pretend that a dramatic promotional image is a map or a button guide.
MachineGames developed The New Order and Bethesda Softworks published it. PlayStation’s official launch post dates the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 release to May 20, 2014; the game also launched on Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The Steam storefront records May 19, so that store’s date differs by a day. This profile uses the PlayStation launch date and the official MachineGames cover rather than mixing it with the later The Old Blood or The New Colossus games.
