Edith Finch returns to her family's unusual house in Washington state. Rooms that once belonged to relatives have been left almost untouched, and each one helps her uncover a story about its former occupant. She wants to understand why she is the last Finch still alive. The premise involves death, but the game is interested in the lives, imaginations and memories behind each room, not in making you fight monsters. It is best approached without reading detailed plot summaries of the individual family stories first.

You explore in first person: walk through the house, look closely at objects, read the words that appear in the space and follow a path into each memory. When a story begins, the way you play may change. One scene can feel playful, another sad or unsettling. There is no conventional combat system or open-world quest list. If you are new to this kind of narrative game, the useful rule is simple: pay attention to what Edith can reach or examine and let the room guide you. The house itself gives you context for who lived there.
Giant Sparrow developed the game and Annapurna Interactive published its PC release on April 24, 2017, as dated on the official Steam store; a PlayStation launch followed around the same period. The title later appeared on other platforms. The original official cover can keep its native lettering, while the five publisher-supplied screenshots below show the house and several visual storytelling styles without explaining the ending.
