Transistor begins with Red, a singer in the city of Cloudbank, finding a huge talking sword after a violent attack. She can no longer speak, and dangerous machine-like enemies called the Process are spreading through the city. The voice inside the sword talks to her as she searches for answers. It is a short, story-led action RPG with a striking painted look and music woven into the experience. You can enjoy the mystery without knowing anything about Supergiant Games' earlier title Bastion.

Red fights in real time, but she can also use Turn() to pause the action and queue several moves before they play out. That gives you a moment to look at enemy positions, plan a route and decide whether to attack or get behind cover. Abilities called Functions can be equipped in different roles: one can become a main attack, support another Function or work as a passive effect. Changing the setup alters how the same fight feels. The sword is both Red's weapon and the voice that helps make sense of Cloudbank, so the combat system and the story develop together.

Supergiant Games developed and self-published Transistor. It first launched on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC on May 20, 2014; later releases brought it to other platforms. This page's date is for that original launch, not the later Nintendo Switch release. The cover is the game's official Red-and-sword artwork, and the gallery contains developer-published screenshots showing Cloudbank, Red and real combat spaces.
