Total War: Warhammer III is a large fantasy strategy game with two connected views. On the campaign map, you choose a faction, move armies, manage settlements, and make decisions about diplomacy and resources. When armies clash, the game changes to a real-time battlefield where you place units and tell them where to move, attack, or hold. It uses the Warhammer Fantasy setting, which is different from Warhammer 40,000.

The original main campaign centers on the Realm of Chaos and the struggle among mortal nations and daemonic powers. Different factions have distinct units and goals, so an army of Cathay soldiers does not fight like a horde of Chaos daemons. New players can begin with the Prologue campaign to learn the basics before tackling the larger map. Immortal Empires, added after launch, combines a much larger world from the trilogy; it is not a separate game.
Creative Assembly developed Warhammer III, with Sega publishing its PC release on February 17, 2022. Mac and Linux versions followed through Feral Interactive. The official cover shows the game’s fantasy armies and full Total War: Warhammer III branding.
