Torchlight II expands Runic Games' action-RPG formula beyond a single town and dungeon. You choose one of four classes, bring a pet and move through outdoor areas and dungeons, defeating monsters and collecting equipment. The overhead view lets you read groups of enemies while attacks, skills and positioning keep the fights active. The pet and inventory systems help manage the constant flow of loot.

The official screenshots below show the pet and hero near an Enclave area, ruined spaces, a crypt encounter, monumental stonework and a dense fight. These are different environments rather than a step-by-step route. Online and local-network cooperative play are supported, but a solo playthrough is also possible. A current Steam listing credits a later publisher; Runic Games' own 2012 announcement is the authority for the original launch.
Runic Games developed and released the Windows PC game on September 20, 2012. Later Mac, Linux and console editions are not presented as original platforms. The U.S. ESRB lists Torchlight II as T (Teen) for Blood and Gore and Violence on its later console versions. That listing does not establish an ESRB rating specifically issued for the original Windows edition; the platform distinction matters here.
