Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 turns a skateboarding course into a list of objectives and opportunities. In Career, each park contains goals such as collecting letters, finding hidden objects, reaching a score, or completing a particular trick. A run lasts only a short time, so the central skill is finding a route that lets one jump flow into a grind, a manual, and another launch instead of treating every obstacle as a separate stunt.

The sequel's manual move is the key addition: land from a trick into a manual, balance it, and use it to connect lines that would otherwise end. Wall rides, lip tricks, transfers, and grinds give the parks several routes through the same space. Free Skate is useful for learning a level without the clock, while Create-a-Skater and Create-a-Park give the home versions extra ways to practice and build challenges.

For a first session, play the opening career park without trying to clear every goal at once. Learn where the biggest ramps, rails, and quarter pipes are, then practice one repeatable line that includes a manual. Release the manual before the balance meter becomes dangerous, and land cleanly before attempting a longer chain. The original 2000 game is separate from the 2020 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 remake, which combines and rebuilds the first two games.
