Geralt of Rivia, the white-haired monster hunter at the center of The Witcher series, becomes King Foltest’s bodyguard. After the king is killed, Geralt is accused and must investigate what happened. The journey mixes a personal search for answers with conflicts between rulers, soldiers and people caught in the fighting.

Your decisions can lead into substantially different story paths rather than one identical sequence of places. Towns, castles and conversations matter alongside combat. Battles combine weapons with preparation options such as potions, traps and magic, so the role-playing systems affect more than dialogue alone.

CD Projekt RED developed the original Windows PC game, released May 17, 2011. CD Projekt published it, with Atari handling the original U.S. publishing credit. The Xbox 360 release and Enhanced Edition followed in April 2012. The official cover shown here is that later Enhanced Edition, not a claimed 2011 retail package. The last three gallery images are also labeled Enhanced Edition; the current publisher gallery does not identify an exact build for its first three screenshots.
