The Talos Principle puts you in the body of a robot who wakes among old stone ruins and working technology. A voice gives you puzzles to solve, while messages and computer terminals raise bigger questions about the world. You do not need to understand the whole story before you begin. Walk into a marked puzzle area, look for a path to its colored sigil, and work out which machine is stopping you. There is no need to rush through a timer in most of the early rooms.

This is a first-person puzzle game, so you see the scene through the robot's eyes. A jammer can temporarily turn off an energy barrier or a dangerous machine. Other challenges introduce lasers, movable objects and more devices later. A sigil is a small colored shape you collect at the end of a solved room; groups of them unlock new routes and tools. Ancient-looking walls and modern-looking barriers often stand beside each other, which is why checking the whole room matters more than guessing a single switch. The separate areas also let you leave a stubborn puzzle and try another one.
Croteam first released The Talos Principle for Windows PC on December 11, 2014, with Devolver Digital as publisher. PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions came later, and The Talos Principle: Reawakened is a later remake rather than the 2014 original. This profile uses publisher-supplied official cover art and five Croteam press screenshots of the original game.
