Link lives in Skyloft, a town high above the clouds. When his childhood friend Zelda is taken away, he travels to the land below to find her. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword combines that story with dungeon puzzles, unusual tools and battles in forests, volcanic areas and desert ruins. Its gallery shows these different places through official images from the original Wii product site.

The Wii version makes the direction of your sword swing important. Enemies can guard against one angle, so combat asks you to watch their defense rather than only swing faster. Flight on Link's bird connects the sky with the adventure below. Puzzles and equipment upgrades add other reasons to explore, gather materials and revisit places. The painted look of the landscapes is part of the original game's visual style, not evidence that these are HD-remaster screenshots.

Nintendo developed and published the game. It first launched in Europe on November 18, 2011, followed by November 20 in North America and November 23 in Japan. The original Wii setup needs a Nunchuk and either a Wii Remote Plus or a Wii Remote with the Wii MotionPlus attachment. The gold cover shown here is original North American Wii packaging. Skyward Sword HD for Nintendo Switch is a separate 2021 release; its button controls and other changes are not features of this original-version record.
