The Last of Us Part II continues Ellie's story several years after the first game. She has made a home in Jackson, Wyoming, but a traumatic event sends her toward Seattle. The journey is about what grief and revenge do to people, not just about defeating enemies. This is a direct sequel: you can follow the immediate plot on its own, but the first The Last of Us gives important context for Ellie and Joel. The game includes graphic violence and mature themes.

You explore ruined streets, houses and wooded areas from a third-person view. Search carefully for supplies, because bullets and crafting materials are limited. Human groups and infected creatures can be approached with stealth, distractions or direct combat. Ellie's ability to go prone, move through grass and crawl under obstacles creates routes that are easy to miss if you only look at doorways. Encounters often have more than one path, while quieter moments let the characters and their relationships carry the story.
Naughty Dog developed the original PlayStation 4 game, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment on June 19, 2020. The PS4 release can also be played on PS5 through backward compatibility. The Last of Us Part II Remastered is a separate, later edition for PS5 and PC; it does not change this game's original release year.
