Telling Lies turns a laptop into the scene of a mystery. Its database holds secretly recorded conversations from four connected lives, spread across two years. You search the words people say, watch the matching clips and use what you learn to choose the next search. The story does not arrive in a fixed order.

The recordings use live actors rather than animated characters. A word that seems unimportant in one clip can point you toward another conversation, so listening is as important as reading the computer screen. The search window, playback controls and notes tools shown in the gallery are part of the game, not a real surveillance service.
This is a single-player investigation, not an action game or a film that only asks you to pick dialogue choices. You decide what to search and which recordings to follow. There is no need to know the plot of Her Story first: Telling Lies is a separate story from the same creator, Sam Barlow.
Logan Marshall-Green, Alexandra Shipp, Kerry Bishé and Angela Sarafyan lead the cast. The Steam credits name Sam Barlow, Half Mermaid and Furious Bee Limited as developers, with Annapurna Interactive as publisher. The original release was August 23, 2019 on Windows, macOS and iOS. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions followed on April 28, 2020; their date does not replace the original year.
