Subnautica: Below Zero

Survival begins with simple needs. Watch the oxygen display whenever you dive, return to the surface or another air source before it runs out, and use collected materials to craft tools. Food, water and temperature also matter. The surface is not automatically safe: some land areas expose Robin to cold, so shelter and equipment become important there. Scanning unfamiliar plants, creatures and technology adds information and can unlock blueprints for items that make later journeys possible.

The underwater areas have different shapes and dangers. A bright starting zone helps you learn the controls, while deeper caves require preparation and a reliable route back to air. You can build a base to store supplies and make equipment, and eventually use vehicles to travel farther. Pay attention to the depth and battery limits of anything you carry. Below Zero is a standalone follow-up to the original Subnautica, so the story can be started here, although returning players will recognise the planet and some survival rules.

Unknown Worlds Entertainment developed and published the full release announced for May 14, 2021 across PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The studio’s May 13 post said PC version 1.0 was already live and console editions were rolling out by local midnight, which explains why some storefronts display May 13 rather than May 14. The official vertical cover shows Robin beneath the ice and sea life around her; the gallery separates underwater biomes, deep caves and the icy surface.
