Monster Hunter Rise makes you a new hunter from Kamura Village. From this home base, you accept a quest, travel to a large hunting area and face a target monster. Successful hunts provide materials you can use to make or improve weapons and armour before trying a harder quest. You are not collecting one fixed “best” sword: different weapon types change how you move, attack and defend, so the first useful choice is finding one that feels comfortable.

Rise adds the Wirebug, a tool that pulls your hunter through the air and gives each weapon special Silkbind attacks. A Palamute is the dog-like companion you can ride to cover ground quickly, and a Palico is a cat-like buddy with support abilities. Both make the maps easier to explore while you gather useful plants, materials and small creatures. The large monsters are visible in the world; learning where one moves and when it leaves an opening is part of each hunt.
Two quest areas are easy to confuse at the start. Village Quests introduce the game through solo play, while Hub Quests are taken at the Gathering Hub and support multiplayer. You can still enter Hub content alone, but it is the route to use when hunting with friends. Capcom’s support explains that multiplayer is for Hub Quests, and online play on Switch requires Nintendo Switch Online. The later Sunbreak expansion adds more hunts and another base; it is separate from the original March 2021 release.
Capcom launched Monster Hunter Rise first on Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2021. A PC version followed in January 2022, and PlayStation and Xbox versions arrived in January 2023. The release year on this page follows the first Switch launch, not the later ports or Sunbreak. Its official cover uses the native Monster Hunter Rise logo over the game’s key art.
