Mark of the Ninja is a side-view stealth game. Your ninja is quick, but a guard who spots you can still be dangerous. Instead of running straight at each enemy, look at the lit space ahead, the direction of the guard’s view and the darker route above or below it. You can slip past without a fight, or use tools to change the situation before moving.

The game makes stealth visible. Light spreads out from lamps, guards react when something draws their attention, and the ninja can move through high perches and vents. A bamboo dart can break a light, while a noisemaker can pull a guard away. The gallery shows those choices: two guards above a dark route, a ninja hanging over a guard, a question-mark reaction, an indoor obstacle and a later rooftop perch. The linked beginner guide uses these actual screens to explain what to look for before crossing a guard’s path.
Klei Entertainment developed the original, first released for Xbox 360 on September 7, 2012, and it reached Windows PC later that year. Steam credits Microsoft Studios as the original publisher. This page is about the 2012 game, not the separate Remastered edition. The U.S. ESRB rated it M (Mature 17+) for Blood and Gore, Strong Language and Violence.
