In Gone Home, Katie Greenbriar comes back from a year abroad and finds her family’s house empty. It is the middle of a stormy night in 1995. Instead of following a combat mission, you walk through the house, switch on lights, open drawers and read the notes people left behind. Each room offers another part of the family’s story.

The house is designed to be explored at your own pace. A concert flyer, a book, a taped message or a locked door can explain where a person went or what they were feeling. Sam, Katie’s younger sister, is especially important to the story. You do not need to fight enemies or manage an inventory of weapons; the main challenge is paying attention to objects and connecting what you find. The dark rooms can look frightening, but the focus is discovery and family drama.
Fullbright launched Gone Home on Windows, Mac and Linux on August 15, 2013. Later console editions followed. In the US and Canada, ESRB rates the later Gone Home: Console Edition M (Mature 17+) for Sexual Themes, Drug Reference and Strong Language; that listing should not be mistaken for an ESRB rating on the original PC release.
