Firewatch begins with Henry taking a summer job at a lookout tower in the Wyoming wilderness. He hopes the distance will help him deal with problems in his life, but unusual events in the forest soon demand his attention. His supervisor Delilah speaks to him over a handheld radio. She is often the only person he can talk to while he is out on the trails, and their conversations change how the story feels. This is a first-person story game, not a survival game about fighting fires or gathering supplies.

Most of your time is spent walking between places, looking closely and choosing what Henry says over the radio. When Delilah gives you a direction, open the map and compass, find the trail or landmark and check where it leads. The forest can look similar in different spots, so use signs, named locations and your map rather than just walking toward the horizon. Objects you can examine and calls you choose to make help explain what is happening. The mystery works best without an ending spoiled in advance, so the gallery below sticks to its locations, the radio and the map.
Campo Santo developed Firewatch, and the game first released on February 9, 2016. It began on computers and PlayStation 4, with later versions reaching Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The official poster has the game's orange lookout-tower artwork and its own title.
