Dredge is a single-player fishing adventure developed by Black Salt Games and published by Team17. You captain a small trawler around remote islands, bringing fish and objects back to shore. It first launched on March 30, 2023, for Windows PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It is its own game, not a Roblox experience or an expansion for another fishing game.

Read full overview

The fisherman arrives at the Marrows and begins taking work from the people living around the islands. Ordinary fishing trips gradually connect to a stranger mystery. Travelling to another island means learning about its inhabitants as well as its waters. The story uses the contrast between a useful catch and a disturbing discovery without requiring every trip to become a fight.

Catching fish uses a timing minigame, but bringing them home also takes planning. Fish and equipment occupy different shapes in the cargo grid. A valuable catch is less useful if there is no space for it, and the boat’s equipment affects the waters you can fish. Selling catches pays for upgrades, while researching rods and other gear opens more possibilities. The gallery shows both the fishing display and the Shipwright’s equipment screen.

Time and visibility change the risk of a journey. Daylight makes navigation easier to read; after dark, fog, hazards and strange threats complicate the trip. Rocks and shallow reefs are problems even before the more unusual dangers appear. Reaching a distant fishing spot and getting safely back to a dock are therefore parts of the same decision, rather than separate activities.

Dredging brings up objects from below the surface as well as fish. Quests give reasons to explore different island regions and improve the boat. The stylised coastlines, water and changing light help distinguish an ordinary sailing route from a tense night journey. This overview introduces the fishing, storage and exploration loop without revealing the mystery’s ending.

The Pale Reach and The Iron Rig are later expansions, not the original March 2023 launch. The base-game gallery here focuses on the trawler, ordinary fishing waters, cargo and boat equipment rather than treating expansion scenes as the starting experience.
