DmC: Devil May Cry is a new take on Dante rather than a continuation of the earlier games’ story. He is a young demon hunter living in a modern city. Demons drag him into Limbo, a distorted version of the city where streets and buildings can twist around him. You move through missions, fight demons and uncover why the city is under their control. You can start here without playing the older Devil May Cry games.

Combat is fast and meant to be varied. Dante begins with a sword and guns, then gains Angel and Demon powers that change which weapons and moves he can use. A scythe helps sweep through groups, while heavier attacks can hit a single enemy hard. Try a short chain of moves, watch where enemies are standing and switch tools instead of repeating one attack. Some powers also help Dante cross gaps and reach the next area, so they are useful outside a fight.
Ninja Theory developed the game and Capcom published it. The original PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release arrived in North America on January 15, 2013; Windows PC followed on January 24. This is the original DmC, not the later Definitive Edition. The ESRB rates the original M (Mature 17+) in the United States and Canada.
