Desperados III is a real-time tactical stealth game set in the Wild West. You control a small team from above and work out how to pass guards, reach objectives and avoid an alarm. It is a prequel to Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive, following John Cooper before the events of that earlier game.

The five playable characters bring different tools to a problem. Cooper has a knife and revolvers; Hector uses an axe and a bear trap; Doc McCoy brings lures, knockout gas and a long-range pistol. Kate can use a disguise and a hidden gun, while Isabelle adds another set of unusual abilities. Choosing who handles each obstacle matters more than charging forward with everyone at once.

A mission can offer more than one way through. Quiet takedowns, distractions and non-lethal attacks let you approach the same group differently, while gunfire creates noise that nearby enemies can hear. Guard sight areas show which parts of the map are being watched. Canyon crossings, riverbanks and busy streets give you different spaces to plan around.

Showdown Mode lets you line up team actions for a coordinated move. It pauses the action by default, but the pause setting depends on your difficulty options; it is not a promise that every configuration stops time. The game is single-player, so controlling several characters does not mean it has co-op. Difficulty settings and optional mission challenges give you reasons to try a different approach on another run.

Mimimi Games developed Desperados III and THQ Nordic published it. It launched on June 16, 2020 for Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. macOS and Linux support came later and is available in the current PC listing. Additional season-pass missions are separate from the base campaign.
