Red Alert 2 opens in a timeline altered by experiments in time travel. The Soviet Union, no longer checked by the old balance of power, turns its armies west, while the Allies answer with superior technology. The campaign lets players command either side through a chain of missions shaped by the conflict between Premier Romanov's Soviet forces and the Allied response. The setting moves from snowy military bases to North American cities, with live-action briefings framing the escalation.

The original game is a classic real-time strategy loop: establish a base, build power and refineries, collect ore, unlock technology, and send land, naval, and air units toward an objective. Allies and Soviets share a small foundation but have different units, structures, strengths, and weaknesses. Single-player campaigns sit beside skirmish and multiplayer modes, while special units such as Tanya give some missions a more direct tactical role.
Play Boot Camp before the full campaign if the interface is new. Keep an ore refinery working, protect the power grid, and scout before committing expensive armor. Early defenses buy time, but a base that never expands its economy will run out of options. Save before a major attack so you can compare a direct assault with a flank, naval route, or special-unit solution.
This page is for the 2000 base game, not the 2001 Yuri's Revenge expansion, its Yuri faction and units, or later remastered Command & Conquer collections.
