Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons follows two boys whose father is gravely ill. They leave their village together to find a cure, crossing forests, mountains and dangerous places. The story is told mostly through what the brothers do and what they encounter, so the journey is easy to follow even when characters speak a made-up language.

The unusual part is the control scheme: on a standard controller, one stick moves the older brother and the other moves the younger one. Each brother can interact with something different. To get through a puzzle, you may need to hold one in position while moving the other. Watch where each can stand, pull, climb or help before trying to force both down the same path. It is a single-player game built around controlling both brothers together, not a conventional online co-op game.
The original release arrived on Xbox 360 on August 7, 2013; PC and PlayStation 3 followed that September. This page covers the 2013 original, not the 2024 remake. In the United States and Canada, the ESRB rates the original T (Teen) for Violence and Blood.
