Alan Wake 2 follows two playable characters whose stories affect one another. FBI agent Saga Anderson arrives near Bright Falls to investigate ritualistic killings. Writer Alan Wake has been trapped for years in the Dark Place, a nightmare-like world that reshapes itself around stories. The game alternates between their investigations, slowly revealing why the pages Saga finds seem to describe events before they happen.

This is a survival-horror game, so searching and staying alive matter as much as fighting. Saga explores the Pacific Northwest, gathers evidence, and connects clues in her Mind Place. Alan moves through a distorted version of New York and uses light and changes to a scene to open routes. Weapons and supplies can be scarce, and darkness makes some enemies harder to harm until you use a flashlight to expose them.
Remedy Entertainment developed the game, and Epic Games Publishing handled its original release on October 27, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. New players can follow Saga's investigation without first finishing the 2010 Alan Wake, but returning players will recognize people and ideas from the earlier story. The official cover shows both the horror setting and the game's title.
