A Plague Tale: Innocence follows Amicia and her younger brother Hugo as they try to stay alive in 14th-century France. Soldiers are hunting them, and swarms of rats make the journey dangerous in a different way. The siblings start out with little help and must work together as they move through villages, fields and old buildings. Their relationship is at the centre of the story, so the game spends time on their fear and trust as well as the dangers around them.

You often need to watch a guard's path, stay out of sight and find a safe route before moving. Amicia can use her sling and other tools, but this is not a game about charging into every fight. Fire and light matter when rats surround an area; look for a way to reach safety before stepping into a dark mass of them. Many scenes ask you to protect Hugo while working out how to get past a threat. The gallery shows the two children together and several of the situations they face, without using a ratings graphic as a gameplay image.
Asobo Studio developed the game and Focus Home Interactive published its original May 14, 2019 release for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Versions for newer consoles followed. A Plague Tale: Requiem is a later sequel, so this page is for the first story.
