Overview

The Bread Thief, known in Japan as Pan Dorobo, is a TV anime based on Keiko Shibata’s picture-book series published by KADOKAWA. Its unlikely hero looks like bread and loves eating it. He slips into local bakeries searching for a delicious loaf, with the bakery owner, a Fake Bread Thief and a mysterious baguette joining the mischievous world around him. The premise is a lighthearted bakery comedy, not a crime thriller. Naohiko Kyogoku directs, with animation by Shin-Ei Animation. Ayaka Asai voices the Bread Thief, Junichi Suwabe voices the bakery owner, Aki Toyosaki voices the Fake Bread Thief, Atsumi Tanezaki voices the mysterious baguette and Kana Hanazawa narrates. The second main trailer released September 17, 2026 previews the ending song “Pang Pang Pang” performed by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and features new art and cast. The show is scheduled to begin Friday, October 2, 2026, at 6:40 p.m. Japan time on NHK E-Tele, with a Friday broadcast slot. The official Japanese site and studio announcement have not supplied a confirmed international streaming service or English-dub date. The original book titles and the Japanese title Pan Dorobo may help readers find further official information.
