Anime details
The Apothecary Diaries is a Japanese mystery anime based on Natsu Hyūga’s novels. Maomao uses her knowledge of medicine, poisons and people to solve unusual incidents in and around an imperial court, often alongside Jinshi. The TV anime began in October 2023 and has completed two seasons of 24 episodes each. Its mix of clever cases, humor and character drama is continuing with a third season, not a standalone remake. Season 3 begins Japanese television broadcast on October 2, 2026, at 11 p.m. local time in Nippon TV’s Friday Anime Night block. The official synopsis says Maomao returns to work as an apothecary, notices a disturbing clue at breakfast, and follows a mystery beyond the inner palace. Jinshi faces responsibilities as the emperor’s younger brother and a warning of disaster. A mysterious maiden adds to the questions. Aoi Yūki voices Maomao and Takeo Ōtsuka voices Jinshi; Rena Ueda has been announced as Bai Niangniang. TOHO animation has shared a new trailer and key visual. A separate feature film with an original story is also planned for December 11, 2026; it is not the same release as Season 3. International streaming availability may differ from the announced Japan TV schedule.
